Apositi- er... A-relatively-sure? Eh. That isn't the point.

Good Morning/ Afternoon/ Evening to all.
This community seems rather awesome to me.

A few things about me?

Officially my name is Samantha, though I more often go by 'Sammy'. Really though, you could call me whatever you like. I recently turned seventeen, and finished year eleven just today. My most loved thing in the universe is music. Belief-system-wise, I'm an agnostic atheist. I live in Australia, but want so badly to travel more. In fact, were money not a factor whatsoever, I would move to a new country/state every few months or so. I ahve a strange fixation with eyelashes, for some unknown reason, other than that they're lovely. My biggest fear is permanence. Oh, and spiders. Also... I tend to go on slight tangents, which I'm going to try and keep to a minimum here.

So anyway...
Like quite a few people here, it seems, I discovered this site through AVEN. For a number of years, I have been identifying as asexual, because I in no way desire to be involved in any sexual acts. I am in no rush to label myself, but at this stage of my life, seem to fit the description of being pan-romantic. I happen to know one person offline who is pretty much the same way about such things, and although she has been one of my closest friends for years, we've only discussed our sexuality (or lack thereof) recently.
Just saying ‘Hi’ to every here, wondering how you’re all doing. Have some emoticons. Simply because they’re so pretty.

I would like to also greet you with an utmost simple hello. I too am 17 and an agnostic atheist, though I live in America. I also wish that I could travel the world but find that money is a deterrent to my dreams. I have never met another asexual until I found this site through AVEN. I too love music; generally opera, classical, or some foreign pop(generally from Korea, Japan, or Thailand). Oh I hope I don't ramble on too long.... well anyway, I am glad to find that there are others out there like me(at first when I told my friends they all believed I needed to see a psychiatrist and that something was wrong with me; I had never met anyone I could really connect with); well glad to meet you. I would like to get to know you more, could you please list some of your favorite bands, books, shows, movies, etc. Well glad to meet you and good luck on your end.

Thankyou <3

Lol, I'm unsure as to whether many peoples' taste in music/movies here reflects their asexuality, but mine doesn't.

Favourite bands? This tends to change almost constantly...but, at the moment, my favourite musical artists are:
-Muse
-AFI <- Seeing them live in February
-Placebo <- Seeing themlive in February too
-Serj Tankian<- I saw him in January.
-Marilyn Manson <- I saw the live in October.
-Nine Inch Nails
-The Dandy Warhols
-David Bowie
-Noir Desir
- I'm really starting to have this new-found interest in The Beatles...like... only just now.
EDIT: Over-playing The Pixies a lot lately too.

Books? I definitely don't read as much as I should, since I'm a slow reader. By that I mean, I know most people read faster in their heads than they do aloud. I don't. For some reason, I comprehend things by reading them aloud in my head, and so I'm quite sure I read much slower than a lot of people.
But I'm going to say The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I love to read his plays and essays too.
I like both Invisible Monsters and Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.
I just very recently finished Nineteen-Eight-Four, and...Wow ... the ending was so bleak. Loved it though xD.
And, I'm now reading Perfume by Patrick Süskind.

Films... Donnie Darko, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Across The Universe, Two Hands, Pleasantville, Edward Scissorhands, Amélie, V for Vendetta, And, I’m not particularly into Batman whatsoever, but I like the way The Joker was portrayed in The Dark Knight.

In my time at AVEN, I saw a few of these threads. For lots of people, sexualized lyrics made them not like the music. I always had a strange sense of fun when I went in and mentioned some of The Faint's songs that I like (namely Sex is Personal, Casual Sex, and Worked Up So Sexual).

I must say your taste in music is fairly varied, and all that I recognize in there I rather like.

Thankyou.

Haha. Hmm... I remember being in the AVEN chat-rooms and wondering whether or not it would be too strange for me to mention I like a band called 'Jack Off Jill'. Their lyrics aren't even sexual, really. It's just what they decided to call themselves -shrugs-

I think, sex is just one of many themes in music. The same way I can adore a song about drugs with absoloutley NO intention of using them, like songs about deep romantic love without having felt anything alike, or enjoy lyrics that refer to Gods I don't beleive in. If a play ends in murder or suicide, I HIGHLY doubt all of the audience members enjoying it have homicidal or suicidal tendencies themselves.

I've only actually heard a couple of songs by The Faint (my friends and I took to making each other mixed CDs a few years back) and I quite liked them.

The last CD had on it Forever Growing Centipedes, and, Posed to Death. I may Youtube them sometime...

Haven't heard Forever Growing Centipedes. I have two of their albums, the thing I find most interesting about The Faint is the sound changes fairly drastically album to album.

With regards to lyrics, I am much the same. The sound is far more important to me than the lyrics, I've heard countless sexual, romantic, or religious songs that I rather enjoyed, despite having no relation to any of those. Likewise, I have heard songs with lyrics I can relate to, but the sound is just blah.

My music library ranges from the very sexual lyrics of Rod Stewart or The Faint to the rather asexual lyrics of Morrissey, Very religious gregorian chant to the anti-religious lyrics of After Forever and Epica, all over the spectrum on any given topic. What they all have in common is I really like their sound.

Hm... is there a specific album that you recomend then?

That's true, I don't look for lyrics I can relate to. Lyrics are probably equally important to me as sound, but I'm really not concerned with what's being said, as I am with how it's being said. I like pretty lyrics, I suppose, regardless of what they're about. xD

Oh- Morrissey is just brilliant. His music is strange and alluring, somehow. Do you listen to The Smiths at all much then? I prefer his solo stuff, but I still like 'em. I actually haven't listened to much Rod Stewart-though my Mum is obsessed with him- nor have I heard Epica. I do have some After Forever though, and I don't know the lead vocalist's name, but her voice is beautiful. Sounds like you have excellent music taste.

That seeems a good common link. There are some bands whose sound I like sometimes, and not others. Like, The band Cruxshadows, I find some of the synth kind of addictive, but the lead singer's voice gets to me sometimes. And, I actually like Dani Filth as a vocalist, but most of the latest C.O.F album annoys me. Plus, I'm not always able to pinpoint why I like, or don't like a song or artist.

Thing is- I'm too cheap to pay for music. So I download whole albums, and sometimes begin to lack a life in the process xD. Yes, I do still buy CDs, but if I bought ALL the music I wanted to hear, I'd be broke.

Of the three albums I have, Wet From Birth is my favorite. It has the most varied sound throughout the album.

With regards to the importance of the lyrics, how it sounds is indeed important. A poor rhyme scheme can mess up a song, and a voice unsuited for the genre or that just plain can't sing can ruin it as well. Then again, mixing a voice uncommon in a genre (such as the opera trained voices sometimes heard in European gothic metal) can create a rather unique and awesome sound.

I've listened to a bit of The Smiths, I like, but I haven't heard enough to give a thorough opinion. Rod Stewart jumped to mind simply for the lyric "If you want my body and you think I'm sexy..." He's not one of my favorites, but I still like his sound. As for Epica, the guitarist/male vocalist from After Forever formed Epica after leaving the band. Their sound is somewhat similar, and their vocalist also has an awesome voice like that. You might also like Nightwish if you are into that sort of music (though Nightwish has changed lead singers, both have very different vocal styles. Their former singer had a style more similar to After Forever or Epica).

I haven't heard of Cruxshadows, so I can't say much there. And by COF, are you referring to Cradle of Filth? I've heard a fair amount of them, and I've always liked it, but I don't think I have heard their newest album, so I cannot say much there.

As for paying for music, I tend to use the Amazon MP3 store, as albums there are usually around the $10 range. Also, with how successful Radiohead's little album experiment was, and how well Nine Inch Nails did with selling Ghosts as a $5 download, I'm hoping to see more artists go independent and sell for less in the near future.
